The pilot is located in Guadalajara, Spain, at the central part of the country. It is a collective housing block consisting of four 11 storey-high towers, three of them together and a free-standing one, sharing the same community ownership, with a total number of 177 dwellings. These residential buildings were built in 1978 with double-layer brick facades and no thermal insulation, and an oil boiler as the energy source. The energy performance of the building was rated as E before the renovation. Due to the low energy efficiency, the residential building has been renovated by EOS through the implementation of passive technologies such as ETICS (External Thermal Insulation Composite System) using 100 mm of EPS insulation, substitution of windows in common areas for others with better thermal features and roof insulation of 150 mm XPS. As for the installations, the oil boiler was replaced by air source heat pumps with two natural gas boilers as a backup solution, hybrid solar panels covering 33% of the DHW demand, and 149 photovoltaic panels with a power of 81,21 kWp.
Site objectives
- Energy renovation of the building with passive and active technologies.
- Installation of an advanced smart monitoring system integrated into a digital twin of the buildings to gather data for optimization, prediction and comfort delivery for the users.
- Validate the solutions for the energy renovation of the building through simulations using the LEGOFIT platform and identify areas of possible optimization.
